Liz Murray with her mum
Celebrating my mum's 80th birthday this week, she taught me the pause long before I had a word for it
Hi {{ first_name | default: "there" }},
This week I celebrated my mum's 80th birthday. Watching her move through a room full of people, unhurried, never rushing to get her point across, I found myself thinking about where I actually learned the habit I'm sharing with you this week.

We pick up our earliest response habits long before we ever think about them, from the adults around us when we were small. My mum has always paused before she reacts, asked before she assumed, and never needed the last word to feel right about herself. I didn't understand what a gift that was until I'd spent years unlearning my own instinct to explain myself first.

This week's Take 5, blog and podcast are all about that exact habit, the pause, and what it actually costs you to use it well. Here's what's waiting for you below.

REFLECTION QUESTION
“Who taught you how you respond under pressure, and is it still serving you?”
★
THIS WEEK'S TIP
The urge to explain yourself immediately is a signal, not an instruction. Notice it before you act on it.

What it looks like on an ordinary Tuesday
Coaching · Speaking · The Leadership Mirror · Contact   Realising I didn't listen, because I was too busy getting my point across Hi {{ first_name | default: "there" }}, Last week I named the skill most leaders never learn on the job. This week I got specific, four ordinary moments that reveal when it's missing, on a completely normal Tuesday.None of them make you a b...
The skill nobody put on your job description
Coaching · Speaking · The Leadership Mirror · Contact   Some places make it easy to breathe. The real work is finding that same pause mid-challenge. Hi {{ first_name | default: "there" }}, Two leaders came to me this month with the same problem. Team members distracted, underperforming, dragging the whole team down. One asked me to coach the team members directly. The ...
Most burnout doesn't look like burnout
Hi {{ first_name | default: "there" }}, Most burnout doesn't look like burnout from the outside. And if you're the kind of leader I work with, it probably doesn't feel like it either. You're still turning up. Still getting things done. But somewhere underneath all of that, you are running very fast and no one can see it. This week on Take 5 I'm busting the workload myth and naming what's act...
