How are you feeling right now?

When we lead from that space, rushing, reacting, running on fumes, the energy we take into the workplace is contagious.
And not in a good way.

 

The Moment That Woke Me Up

A few years ago, during a rapid growth phase, I was working at full tilt.
We were onboarding new clients, setting up new systems, hiring new people, all at once.
I was exhausted, but I told myself: “Just push through until it’s all set up.”

What I didn’t realise was that my energy had shifted.
I was focused on speed and output, not connection or presence.
I’d become the leader who said, “Just get it done,” and the team mirrored my energy.

Everyone was running hard, heads down, tense.
Productivity looked high, but energy was low.
And when energy drops, so does creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Then one day, I hit a wall.
A health scare forced me to take unexpected medical leave.
Suddenly, I had to stop.

During that time away, I realised what I’d created: a culture of urgency instead of clarity.
I was leading through effort, not energy.

That was my wake-up call.

 

What I Learned About Leadership Energy

When I returned, I made one shift that changed everything:
I started managing my state before managing my schedule.

I stopped diving straight into emails.

I began every day by checking in with myself:

“What energy am I bringing into the room today?”

Because here’s the truth:
Your team’s energy will never rise above yours.

When you show up scattered, they feel it.
When you show up calm and clear, they align.

It’s not about working less, it’s about leading from presence, not pressure.

 

A 3-Minute Reset You Can Try Today

Next time you walk into a meeting, take three minutes to reset:
1. Close your laptop.
2. Breathe deeply.
3. Ask yourself: “What’s needed most from me right now — clarity, calm, or courage?”

Then lead from that space.

It sounds simple, but that pause shifts your physiology, your mindset, and your influence.
Your team will feel the difference — and so will you.
